Feeling Like A Ten

Manhattan-Midtown East

When you’re feeling like a ten and looking to have a special night out this guide brings together some of the best bubbly, steaks and views in Midtown. This is one of my favorite outings when celebrating a special occasion. Even if that special occasion is, “just because”.

Stately, historic hotel bar serving classic cocktails@ The St. Regis New York

The St. Regis is old New York. While you’re never really out of place in formalwear in Manhattan, you are certainly in the right place here if you happen to be in a gown / black-tie. The King Cole Bar is a superb place to begin a special evening. In addition to being one of the first places in America where the Bloody Mary was served the bar is also made famous by Maxfield Parrish’s masterpiece King Cole mural. Grab a table or a seat at the bar, most are first come first serve. The exception is Table 55. Table 55 must be reserved. It’s the only table with access to an exclusive chef’s custom designed menu and a bespoke wine list from the hotel’s coveted cellar. Expertly curated tableware from Christofle and Bernadaud complete the stylish dining experience. That will run you about $2,500 a night.

After drinks at the King Cole Bar you’ll be a short walk a few blocks north and one avenue west to get to Quality Meats. If you arrive a little before your reservation they also have a great bar where you can grab a cocktail before you’re seated. Quality Meats has the menu of a classic Midtown steakhouse with the vibe and setting of a newer fresher downtown restaurant.

Salon de NingBars & Lounges
High-end rooftop bar in the Peninsula Hotel

There is a bit of backtracking here but it’s well worth it. The Peninsula is located right next to the St. Regis so after dinner and dessert you can stroll back down Fifth avenue (always a nice walk at night). Salon de Ning is the rooftop bar at the Peninsula. The prices are what you’d expect (expensive) but the rooftop is perfect. It’s intimate and perched quietly overlooking Midtown and Fifth Avenue. The perfect place to get a bottle of champagne and enjoy the night.
