Afternoon With the Kids in Williamsburg

Brooklyn-Williamsburg

You really can’t beat the views from Williamsburg, which are arguably some of the best in all of the five boroughs. Grab some coffee at Devoción, let the kids burn off some energy at Domino Park, and refuel with a hearty dinner at Baci & Abbracci. If you still have room for dessert, end the night at Martha’s Country Bakery.

If you’re like me, you can always use an afternoon pick-me-up, which you can find at Devoción, a beautiful coffee house with a giant plant wall that roasts its own coffee beans. Relax in Devoción's tranquil atmosphere, or, if it’s not so tranquil due to your favorite rambunctious small people, get your favorite caffeinated beverage to go and enjoy a short walk to Domino Park.

Take in the Manhattan Skyline as you let your kids run off some energy at Domino Park. There’s nothing better to combat the New York summer heat than the fountain, with its eighty-eight water jets, or the fog bridge, where you can get sprayed by a giant, refreshing mist. Year round, kids will enjoy exploring the playground, which consists of two climbing silos with slides, climbing tunnels, and monkey bars, made out of some of the reclaimed materials from the old Domino Sugar Factory. When we lived nearby, my daughter begged me to go to this park almost every single day.

One of my favorite nearby restaurants is Baci & Abbracci, where parents can enjoy a well-deserved glass of wine and homemade pasta, while kids munch on wood-fired pizza. What I love most about this restaurant is that it feels upscale, but is very kid friendly and always full of families.

If you still have room for dessert and don’t mind letting your kids get a little sugared up before bedtime, you can’t beat Martha’s Country Bakery, filled wall to wall with homemade cakes, pies, cookies, and of course, gelato.
