Care for a walk? That'll be easy. Directly outside the front gates of the Museum of Natural History is 79th St Transverse, a small road/foot path that takes cars/pedestrians directly through the center of Central Park. There are plenty of opportunities to stray from the scenic Transverse path. Sit by Turtle Pond and observe the wildlife. Go in a little farther and you will find yourself at the Great Lawn, a massive grassy area where frisbees are thrown, footballs are kicked about, and people lounge and talk. Enjoy bucolic Central Park as you make your way to the upper west side to get back into the Museum state of mind; this time, the MET.
