Mother Daughter Day in Manhattan

Manhattan-West Village

My mother lives abroad but when she comes to visit, this is one of our must-do mother-daughter days. This particular guide takes place in the Meatpacking District, and the walk between the following places is only 4 minutes. This guide is perfect for a sunny day.

Kobrick Coffee Co. is our favorite coffee spot in the city. It’s an independent coffeehouse with quality coffee which they roast themselves, and the baristas really know what they’re doing! This place is small, cozy and has a vintage-style to it. They also sell delicious snacks and sandwiches. Did I mention their signature coffee cocktails?

The Whitney is a museum specializing in contemporary American art with a focus on living artists. Make sure to plan ahead- the museum is six floors so it might take some time getting through it!

It’s a great place to spend an afternoon with the family. The Whitney Family Programs offers a number of interactive tours, art making workshops, and events that encourage kids and adults to learn about art together. Children 18 and under enjoy free admission!

On Saturday and Sunday from 10:30 - 3pm the Museum also offers an Open Studio where families can make a fun art project inspired by works on display at the museum. It’s free with admission and your own art makes a pretty cool NYC souvenir

After the museum you’ll probably be hungry. A four minute walk away from the museum is a restaurant called Fig & Olive. I love going there for their signature crostini’s and some well paired wine. It’s been one of my top 3 restaurants in the city since I first went there 15 years ago
