Brooklyn in Manhattan

Manhattan-Flatiron

Some of my most memorable days and nights in the city have been in Brooklyn. Some of my most epic cab and subway rides have also been to and from Brooklyn. When I don’t have the time or energy for a trip to Brooklyn, I enjoy some Brooklyn vibes with few spots around Manhattan. Below is an afternoon / evening I’ve really enjoyed. Hope you do too!

The Brooklyn Roasting Company has it’s roots in the warehouse of DUMBO in Brooklyn. This location on 23rd street is their first Manhattan cafe. They’ve included a chessboard tile floor and long art deco bar to give it a vintage feel. Between the espresso, the pastries and jukebox this place is as Brooklyn as you’ll find on 23rd street. It’s an awesome place to grab a coffee and catchup with friends.

Any good Brooklyn outing involves some style inspiration. For this Manhattan version, head to the Buffalo Exchange for a little thrift shopping. This is a local chain of stores that buy and sell used and vintage clothing. Whether you’re shopping for the work week or a weekend party you can always find something interesting here.

After a little thrift shopping head to Hill Country. One of the best fast food fried chicken’s I’ve had, anywhere and luck for us it’s just a block from the Buffalo Exchange. Make sure you get some chicken, a few sides, and any of the deserts, pies, shakes are always a safe choice to top it off.

Last stop on this Brooklynesque outing is the Lobby Bar at the Ace Hotel. The Ace has a very Brooklyn vibe from the lobby decor to the freelancers that pile into the couches, it just feels like Brooklyn. The bar and restaurant are also legit. The bar menu includes a rotating list of craft beers & spirits, and a selection of snacks from the Breslin kitchen.
